Photography Question

Kristy A. Keene

What do the judges look for?

I am really interested in knowing what the judges look for in the contest. My only hope for moving up to a better gallery is winning a contest.(I can't afford to buy an upgrade). If anyone has any suggestions I would love to here them!

I can suggest to study the contest finalist and winners. They are under photo contest on the menu.

This will give you a good idea what the judges are looking for.

Hi Kristy... keep in mind the first level of upgrade is actually $22.00/year, for a 300-image gallery. (ie, I wasn't sure if you'd only seen the 2 more expensive website upgrade packages, starting at $209/year, and overlooked the "Premium Gallery" option for $22.)
I hoped I might be fortunate enough to win one of those (the prize given out for "Second Place" winners) but ultimately decided I didn't want to wait however long it may take me, to rank a "Second Place"!!

This is not really the answer you are looking for but I am going to make a suggestion anyway. Forget trying to match what the judges want in a photo. Shoot for your own enjoyment and create your own style. Judging photos is a subjective decision and you may NEVER get a winner in the contest but still have great photos. On the other hand, you may develope your own style and wow the judges with your creativity. Ultimately, you are the final judge. Shoot to satisfy yourself.

In your quest for a contest winner, Good Luck!

Kerry is right! Shoot what you love and it will show! As for figuring out what the judges want, if you are going to try to do that you'll be crazier than me in a big fat hurry!
