Photography Question

Canon lense packages

I'm buying a Canon EOS 20D. Question is about the lenses to begin with.

I have a choice of getting a Canon 17-85mm IS USM as my first and only lens for a while (due to cost) or...

getting both a Canon 18-55 AND a 75-300 telephoto lens. No IS included on either of these 2 lenes.

I live in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and photos of the mountains and water are very important to me - as well as candids of the kids and beach scenes.

Which is more important...getting the IS or the two lenses (one being telephoto) - no IS?

Thank you.

  Never been there.
My thought is, if you are mostly shooting in bright/daylight/sunset/sunrise stuff, the 18-55 and 75-300 would give you both the close up for kids and the oomph you need to reach across the beach or onto the water.
You'd probably find that the 75-300 would be your main/carry around lens.

Thank you so much, Bob. This has really haunted me...ugh! Am I giving up a lot with not having the Image Stabilizer feature?

Thank you, again, Diana
