Photography Question

New Spam Email

Hi BP Members,

This morning I received another spam email from a Mariam Dallington asking to purchase photos. Please do not respond to this email, it is spam from your contact button in your gallery or Deluxe Site.

I know how frustrating it is to receive these emails as I receive them too.

Jay and Tori are working on installing an authentication step once someone hits the "contact" button on gallery or Deluxe site. Hopefully this will deter many of these spammers.

Thanks,

I received an email this past week from an alex james wanting to purchase photos...he asked if payment by money order would suffice and that he owned a shipping company so the shipping would be taken care of....
is this the same thing??

  Hi Tori,
Thanks for the note, and good question! It's possible that this situation you described could be legitimate - i.e., a money order (which is like cash) as opposed to a cashier's check (where you could be held liable if the supposed "buyer" pulls money out of the account right after the check is issued). But not necessarily.

One warning sign:

- Is the "buyer" vague about which images they want to buy? Beware! That's the trick that "Mariam" uses. After all, who would offer to give you money for just any prints? Wouldn't a real buyer want to pick out the images themselves?

Another warning sign:

- As for owning a shipping company, that reeeeeally has me suspicious. For example, while the offer of a money order itself might be safe - i.e., the money order is just like cash - the "buyer" may want you to pay the shipping costs up front, BEFORE they send the money order. Plus, they will likely be getting all sorts of personal info from you: email address, first off, and if you pursue it, they will also have your home address (i.e., for the shipping company carrier to pick up your prints.

Tori, I would be extremely careful here, just because of the "shipping company" angle!

Good luck, and let us know if you come up with more info!
Kerry

I was tipped off by his name, a common name one might say, but he had very bad use of the English language. He was worse than the ones who really don't speak our language well. Plus my photos in my gallery are mostly personal portraits and are not the stunning photos that a lot of people have. Good riddance to alexjames.

Yes I just recieved one from Mike Moore also, I won't be hearing back from him, becuase I told him the money would have to clear before he could pick up any merchandise. Also I recieved one from Alex James the other day. Which his email is no longer good. These people must think were stupid. And yes a red flag popped up to me when I read Alex James, his spelling was awful.

I also heard from Mike Moore and I said TAKE A HIKE MIKE my photos are not for sale to scam artist like you. If we change our contact button so they can't reach us does that mean that no body from betterphoto can reach us as well?
