film not exposed when i changed lens

hi. I am completely new to photography and I just purchased a pentax k1000 camera with standard 50mm lens. developed the first roll and was happy with the outcome. I decided to buy a 100mm macro lens used. in mid roll I switched lenses. I just developed the roll and not one of the photos using the macro lens came out- not exposed uniformly clear. I am not near my camera so maybe I put the lens on wrong? any input would be great as im a complete newbie.

I've changed lenses before plenty of times in mid-roll. co it probably was already exposed.

Hi, Katy - sorry to hear of your difficulty.

Changing the lens mid-roll is a non-issue with a 35MM SLR, so that's not it (as Amber pointed out).

You say the second half of the roll is uniformly clear - as if it wasn't exposed at all, right? Now, we know we can rule out a problem with the shutter, since the first half of the roll is okay using the other lens. But there are a couple of things I can think of:

1) You don't say what f-stop (aperture) you had the macro lens set to when you took the shots - did you set the exposure the same way as you did with the 50MM lens? (match the needle, or whatever?) If not, perhaps you inadvertantly left the f-ring set to f32 or something that allows in a miniscule amount of light - which could lead to the film not getting enough exposure at all.

2) If you did set the aperture according to the light meter, then the other possiblity is that the lens is just broken. That is, maybe when you fire the shutter the lens stops all the way down to f32, even though you are viewing through it at f2.8. If this is happening, again the film wouldn't get nearly enough light to be exposed properly.

PS: like your kat emoticon-oid thingie...

i didnt note the f-stop but I didnt mess with it and just shot off some pictures without thinking about it (did I mention this is my first camera so im fairly clueless when it comes to fstops and shutter speeds). I did note that the shutter speed was set to a low number. I also changed the diaphragm ring (f-stop?) and checked to see if the shutter worked ok and it did but I figured it was ok because the other lens was fine. what f-stop should I use? I tried to stay more in the middle area this roll. I have a book on basic slr camera but just got it. im a much better visual learner though. thanks for the comment on my little icony cat thing, I like cats but you probably figured that:P

  Bob!
i think what you wrote about the f-stop and setting exposure that you wrote about sunk in. I didnt quite get it before (when I read it in a book)but after reading how you wrote it I think im getting it! I didnt mess with f-stop at all. I will post after I shoot another roll and see what happens. I think I actually get it. thanks bob!
