Photography Question

Model Releases

Do you have to have one each for hanging a picture in your studio, putting it in your portfolio and on your website of the same person?
Where can you get a Model Release form?

Typically a photo hanging in your studio (not the front window in public eye) but just in your studio wouldn't need a model release. You as a citizen of America have the freedom to take a picture of anything or anyone you want (with the exception of federal buildings, military installations, etc.). You can also use these images for any personal matter you desire. As long as the photo isn't publically displayed or published in any way/form you don't need a model realse, so for the studio, no. To put it in contests, on a website, in the window of your gallery/studio then yes you would need a release. In general it's recommended to get a model release everytime you shoot in case somethign turns out prize winning or possibly the best photo you've ever taken so that you can display it and show it off. That's just my recommendation.

A good general model release can be found here. You can ammend anything in there (like the part where it says images will be G or PG rated) you can make it R or X or whatever you want. Obviously you want to change the name of the photographer to your name and ammend any dates and things of the such. Hope this helps in any way possible.

Justin

If it is all the same person, I would think it depends on if the photos were all from the same photo session. If yes, then the one model release should cover all photos from that entire session.

If it's the same person, but photos taken at all different times you're probably safer to have releases for each session.

Coming from Corprate studios: a photographer only needed 1 release to but shot in their portrfolio, enter it for corprate merrit and if the company thought it worthy the same release form followed it to Advertising and Corp.Gallery.

Now, lets hope a corperation that big had their I's dotted and T's crossed, lol, lol
