Which finish - Gloss or Matte - Scans Better? Which finish do you think scans better, Gloss or Matte? Thanks for your help.

I have better luck scanning glossy surfaces. Matte bounces light around at all angles. With either surface, be sure the print is FLAT against the scanner glass.

Yes - so far I've found the gloss is best.

Gloss - always. The Matte surface is slightly textured and when scanned will reproduce as a texture in the digital version. The quality, then, is based on the use of the photo. Digital-to-print again will be disasterous if the photo is used any larger than 1:1. If 1:1, the texture of the printing surface and the texture from the scanned photo will mix and product a "muddy-looking" image. In short, always scan using gloss - and as people have stated, make sure the photo is flat against the scan surface.
