On the camera repair forums we have been seeing this sensor defect reported for some time. There are multiple possibilities but the most likely cause, to me, is moisture invading an sensor chip with inadequate or brittle epoxy sealing. I say this because so many of the display malfunctions are reported to appear shortly after exposure to light moisture or humid conditions.
