Exposure compensation

Hi everyone,
I've started using a rollicord Vb for black and white landscape photography. I am struggling with exposure compensation when using a 'Cokin A series Linear Polarizer'. Does anyone know exactly how many stops I should hold back. Also, how many stops for an orange filter as I keep getting different readings when placing mine over a hand held meter.

  Timothy,
I do not have/use the Cokin. How much exposure compensation is required varies from polarizer to polarizer brand/type. Usually the compensation is about 2.5x; 1-1/3 stops or EV. YMMV (your mileage may vary) as much as a full stop from this; probably not what you wanted to hear. It also varies depending on how you've set the polarizer. I recommend an experiment by bracketing a typical photograph using it and keeping some notes to find out more exactly what yours requires.

For the orange (G) filter, typical shutter speed compensation is 2.5x. In f-stops or EV, this is 1-1/3 stops more exposure. Use that as a starting point. There is some variation among filter makers, but it won't be as much as for a polarizer.
