Indoor sports

When I was shooting Ice Hockey indoors with a 35mm I could increas the speed, the Nikon D70 only goes to 1600. What can I do to get more light because useing a flash through glass is a bad idea. Thanks

Lee, there's very little you can do to increase the light in the arena...you're only option is to get a faster lens (if you're not already using a fast lens). I'm not familiar enough with the D70 to know if you can set it to underexpose by one stop once you've set sensitivity to 1600, but frankly CCDs get pretty noisy at very high sensitivities so I don't know if that's a good idea anyway.

The pro shooters have huge radio-controlled flashes hung above the arena lights in the ceiling - that's how they are able to get stunning shots while we mortals plod along praying for a 1/125th second shutter speed...

And you're of course right about the flash off the glass - besides just reflecting back to you it may prove annoying to the players. ANd I'm not sure you want to annoy a bunch of hockey players...
