Downloading photos I am considering buying a portable hard drive. Don't know much about them. Can you download photos directly onto the portable hard drive or do you need the computer? I am wanting some type of device that I can transfer pics to when I am traveling to store till I get back home. Can anyone tell me what I need? Thanks....Judy

Stand alone storage device has a memory card slot (compact flash and secure digital memory card) you can insert to its card slot to download photos. Epson P-2000 (from bhphotovideo): Then, there are personal data storage likes of PDA's (Personal Digital Assistant). You will most likely have to buy an add-on cable to hook up the camera. Once you are home, you will be able to hook up these devices to your computer directly to transfer your images to the computer.

Judy, Go to http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ and search for the following for more information on the devices I mentioned and others. "stand alone storage" (bhphotovideo.com is a reputable photo retail store, trusted among photographers on Betterphoto as well.)

I went to Zim recently and shot nearly a gig a day and d/l each night to an Ipod 60g - it was great, instead of taking the laptop with, but it chewed both the Ipods battery and the 350D's (I had spare for the camera, so not a problem), and had taken my chargers with, but the minute you plug in the Ipod, it discharges completely before re-charding, and then it took the whole night to re-charge - just something for you to think about. Regards
