Adding color to a portion of a black and white pic

Do you know of any software that will allow you to add color to a portion of a black and white photo? EXAMPLE: Black and white photo of a child holding a heart. I would like to change the heart to red but leave the rest of the photo black and white.

  Hi Lisa,
I guess that there are several software packages that would serve your purpose but the one that springs to my mind is Adobe Photodeluxe that is often supplied free of charge with your printer. Having captured your photo into the software you will need to select the brush option from the tools menu which allows you to choose any colour from a palatte.I would recommend that you enlarge the area of the photograph that contains the heart and choose a small brush size which will enable you to neatly colour the heart as required. Enlarging the photo on the screen for this purpose does not affect the size of the photo when it comes to printing it out.
Good luck
Malcolm

As another option, have you considered hand coloring it? It is fun and surprisingly easy. I think it would probably be more satisfying than the digital approach.
