Photography Question

Anyone used a Wedding Show for Marketing???

I'm wondering if any of you have ever had a booth at a Wedding Show for marketing? Were they a good investment? I am trying to decide whether or not to book myself for a show in October. The cost is $600 and it is a booth that caters to the high-end brides. Anyone? All answers very much appreciated :).

A friend of mine took a booth and found it rather lucrative. She about evened out with the cost of the booth and the extra business postcard reprints. One thing that potential clients love is 'samples' that they can take with them. Hope that helps in some way. Best of luck!!

Shows are well-known for having budget brides shopping on price.

I'm not saying that's good or bad, I'm just mentioning it because that is a problem sometimes for some people. If your prices are at the low to mid range of your area, though, a show can work wonders.

A higher-priced photographer usually finds shows a waste of time. Not always, but in many cases.

If you are a $5k per wedding photographer, and you book one wedding, you probably broke even. And, that's about what happens. But, all the $1,500 photographers can get 10 to 15 bookings right there on the spot (this is in my area, Los Angeles...things are very different in other regions).

Shows are not part of my marketing plan, so I don't go to them, but if I did, I'd have a booth that would dazzle. Don't settle for simple, go all out.

Have knock out album samples, a few huge prints (at least 30x40's), and music and proper lighting.

Good luck

I actually did a Bridal Show August 2005, the booth itself cost $800. This being my first show I wasn't sure what to expect. we were told to expect about 20,000 brides....So I did my own at home printing of handouts and such, I handed out maybe 200 at the most. I did get some clients from the show. It was an interesting experience, I did get to learn what the other photographers there charge and offer and different aspects of my "competitors". It really is up to you whether or not you feel it would benefit your business.

Best of Luck!
