Conversion Lenses for non-SLR

Hi folks... Santa was very nice to me this year, and I ended up with a Sony 1.7x tele-conversion lens, plus a Sony close-up lens, for my (non-SLR, 12x zoom) DSC-H1. I'm just curious if anyone has experiences to share, using these (or similar add-on) lenses. Things to watch out for, common distortion issues, light issues, etc. I've not yet had a chance to get out and play with them, and probably won't for a few weeks.
Also, if you can confirm---the purpose of the close-up lens... I believe this lens is designed to allow me to achieve close-up shots, but with the camera actually further away from the subject, versus using just the camera's built-in lens, set in macro mode, and positioned within an inch or two of the subject? (I hope this understanding is accurate--it would be a nice trick to get those close-ups without risk of camera shadow, when I'm that close to the subject in plain macro mode!) Thanks for any input; happy holidays!

I have both the teleconverter lenses, the wide angle, and the one you have. I've found the wide angle to be of much more use than the telefoto, at least for the type of things I shoot with my F717. I didn't get the closeup lens since you can get so close with the camera to begin with. I think you are correct in your assumption on the closeup lenses purpose.
