Getting the right lens

We need a better lens for our sports pictures. What we have works well outside in the day, but lacks f stops for nite or indoor shooting. Camera Canon Digital Rebel 300D,Canon EF 75-300 f4-5.6 and a Canon ef 28-105 also f4-5.6. We won't be able to spend alot on a new lens, I have been looking at the Canon 50/1.8 EF 50mm lens, to help solve shooting available light action picture problems.(Dark and blurry). Any help that someone can give us will be appreciated.Mike Youngs crawfordcosportsphoto.com

The typical solution is a 70-200 f/2.8 zoom. Sigma's 70-200 f/2.8 EX DG HSM is very good, and at ~$800 a good deal cheaper than Canon's (~$1100-1650). If that's too high, then go with a couple of primes. The EF 50 f/1.8 II is dirt cheap (~80) and very good optically.

Also,
EF 35 f/2 (~$230)
EF 50 f/1.4 USM (~$350)
EF 85 f/1.8 USM (~$350)
EF 100 f/2 USM (~$380)
EF 200 f/2.8L II USM (~$640)
