Photography Question

AE-1 and VIVITAR

Getting two Vivitar lens for free, need to know if these will fit a Canon AE-1 First up :70-210 f4.5/5.6.barrel diam.63.5 with acc.size being 49mm. And a 28mm f2.8. Both are said to be for manual focus cameras and do appear to be so. Is there really any way to tell conclusively? Help

Impossible to tell from the typical lens specs. Vivitar makes the same lens available in various camera mounts. You'll need to physically inspect it to see if it is made with the Canon FL/FD mount, or there may be some code on the inner or outer part of the mount that indicates Canon (C or CAN), or FL and/or FD.

FD is the mount for the Canon AE-1. They should work, but you might want to take your camera with you if you can to see if they fit.

As David said, sounds right. The older FL and FD mount lenses will work fine with the AE-1. They have a collar that is turned to tighten the lens onto the body ("breech lock mount"). "new FD" lenses did away with the collar and twist on with a locking pin securing them. Both versions work the same.
