Which compact SLR to buy? I currently own the Minolta 7D and love it, but I am looking for a small light weight camera that I can carry with me all the time. The 7D is great when you are planning the photo adventure, but not to just put in my purse and go. I would really like to know your thoughts before I head out to the photo store.

If you want something compact, you'd be better off with a higher end P&S. I don't think that there is such a thing as a "compact" SLR.

Brendan, I think Anita is referring to the higher end compact digitals that are shaped like a small SLR. Anita - you might want to look at the Canon S2IS, or the Panasonic Lumix line. Nikon and a few others also make similar cameras. My wife has the Canon S2IS, and her sister has the Panasonic Lumix FZ5. Both of those are very compact, 5MP, with image stabilization and very good 12x optical zoom lenses. These cameras also offer the whole range of full auto to full manual, even manual focus if you want. You should check out a few of them at dpreview.com, then find them in the store to see how they feel in your hands. Chris

Thank you so much Chris & Brendan for the information. Chris you are correct in what I am looking for. I had the Sony Cyber Shot and liked this little camera, but my hubby has it now and I need another one. I just thought you guys at BP could lead me in the right direction. Happy Holidays, and thanks again for your information. Anita
