Bar Mitzvah/Wedding album Hi, I am a new kid on the block and a friend of mine wants me to shoot her son's wedding. I don't have a professional photo shop in San Diego that will make a good quality pictures and put a photo album (flashmount and leather bound) together for me. She wants one of the expensive albums and not happy with the one that you can buy in the supply store Any advice? Thanks

I don't exactly understand your question, Ella. Are you looking for a high-end album dealer OR a professional lab that mounts your shots in an album that they sell?? OR are you looking for a professional lab in San Diego?? Maybe you could clarify your question a bit. Mark

Try Fuller D'Ablert in Fairfax, Va. They sell Taprell Loomis albums and binders and my clients/customers have been very pleased with the albums that I get from them. Jim is very helpful there. Check it out.

Thanks for your responses. I have a couple of places in SD that develop pictures (Nelson, Chromme, Photo Express). I would appreciate if you could give me other labs. The labs that I use don't do albums or pages that you put in it. They suggested albumsinc.com. But this site only sells albums and mats (I guess), and I am looking for the albums where photo is an actual picture. Or is there someone who puts an album together for you after you buy an album? I guess if someone can walk me thru step by step and explain to me what do I do in order to get a finished product (album) after I finish shooting pictures - that would be great. I am looking for the leather albums that photographers charge $1000 and more Unfortunately, they don't teach you this in college. Thanks again, Ella

Ella, I honestly don't know of any businesses that will compose an album for you. But in my wedding photography, I wouldn't want one to do it for me. It is the ultimate personal expression of your art to create a lasting memory for your customers. Yes, it takes a lot of time and I generally set aside about four hours for each album, but I have so much fun doing it, orienting the photos in hust the right order, making certain that everything is mounted correctly, the memories of the shoot as I look at each image (yeah, we get to have some fun too). I can't image paying extra to let someone rob me of this pleasure. That said (didn't mean to come off as preachy, I do that sometimes) There may be some businesses that will do this service for you, perhaps even one that sells the albums and prints the photographs and mounts an album for you. Just think what you might be missing. It really is a lot of fun. Just realize that it is going to take a few hours and set that time aside and dont try to rush it. Then when they pick up the album, your pride will fly higher than cloud nine. 'I did that . . .' Chris Walrath
