adapter for my camera to make studio lights fire

Hi, I am still having trouble with my dark dark images when shooting against a white backdrop in my little basement studio. I phoned the store to see if I could get my money back for my lighting kit which cost me $800.00 plus(canadian). I am so frustrated with this and am sure that it is just not enough watts. My main and my fill are 100W each and my backlight is only 40W. I spoke to a manager and he said I cannot get my money back due to it being past the 14 day return policy. I bought this kit in Sept. He just phoned me back and told me the problem is that my camera is picking up the flash on my camera and not the flash from the studio lights. He said even though the lights have a built in slave I should have my flash on my camera off on only be using the flash from the lights. He said because my camera does not have a PC spot I need something that is called an AS 15 hot shoot adapter. He said it is $37.99. Again more money and I don't even know that this is going to help. I looked on ebay to try and find a deal and there isn't any thing called this. Has anyone ever heard of this and do you think this will help.
I hate to be out even more money.
Also the manager of the store is sure that this is enough watts and the watts is not the problem.
Thank you in advance for any info you can give me.
Megan.

Hi Megan. I think you're referring to a "hot SHOE" adapter, although I'm not sure how this is going to trigger your lights without some other device attached to the hot shoe adapter that would do that.

My suggestion is that rather than contacting a camera store, call or e-mail the company that made your camera, tell them the make and model number and the problem you're having with the lights you bought. I'm sure they'll tell you how to go about solving the problem, if it's at all possible.
Mark

Hi, It probabbly is called a hot shoe it just sounded like he said shoot. Anyways he said that in my box of studio lights there is a cord that will attach to one of the lights and then to the adapter. I havn't had a chance to dig through the box yet. My camera is the canon digital rebel 300D SLR. Does this make any sence. I will also email the company who makes these lights. This light kit never had any manual, instructions or anything. I had to go back to the store several times to get help putting the stuff together, and no one ever said I needed this adapter.
Thanks.
Megan.
