Nikon N65 automatic exposure

Using the automatic setting on my N65, I get inconsistent exposure. Is this a limitation or do I need to understand more about exposure and how to insure correctness.

  Terry,
No limitation, you might need to understand exposure more. Need to have a little more information to help you.

Actually it is a kinda limitation. More reflective or brighter colors(shiny metallic, white) reflect more light to the meter, but proper exposure is based on the amount of light shining on something.
So if there's a good mix of light and dark, auto exposure does a good job. But a predominance of one side of the spectrum, auto exposure dosen't always come thru on point.
And yes, you do need to understand more about exposure. That way you'll now when the meter is going to be a little off. That's what the exposure compensation is for.
