HELP!! Question for shooting at night

HI Everyone,
I was hoping that someone could give me a little help. Tonight my daughter is singing in a group at a tree lighting ceremony. It is outside and it will be dark except for some street lights etc. In all my time as a photographer, I've never done nighttime shots. I don't think that I'll be able to bring a tripod. Can anyone help me with the settings for my camera? I have a Canon 20D. It does have a night function, but I'm not sure how well this will work. Any advice would be much appreciated.

crank you ISO high and open up your aperture all the way. this will give you the fastest shutter speeds. you can also use your EXP COMP at -1 and then lighten in photoshop. this might help depending on how dark it is.

use your flash and a slow shutter speed like 30 or 1/15th and hold on to your camara. You have to ask your self whats more important a good pic of your daughter or a blurry christmas tree shot. get the pic of your daughter.
