Photography Question

Richard S. Clemens

Which lens

I would like to buy Canon's 100-400 IS USM Lens, what walk around lens would you suggest. I want a quality lens but I am on a limited budget. It will take me a while to save for the 100-400.
The walk-around lens may come first.

Richard, I have the Canon EF 17-85mm IS USM lens. I provides a nice range. I am upgrading my EF 75-300mm IS USM lens to the EF 70-200mm f/4 L lens. I have heard the L glass is very sharp. I am looking forward to this new lens. I wish I could afford the 70-200mm f/2.8 L with IS, but it is far more expensive.

I use the 28-135 for my walk around lens. It's pretty good, a little soft at times, but I don't use it for anything critical, just snap shots and stuff. And, it seems to be very good in the close-up range.

For a zoom range similiar to the 100-400 I got an inexpensive Sigma 70-400mm super macro APO lens. I had fun with it until I was able to upgrade.
