Taking photos of kids

Hi
I love taking pictures of my own children, but a friend has asked me to take some portraite type photos of her 2 grandchildren for a surprise for her daughters christmas. the children are aged 5 month and 6 years. I am ok with my own as they are older the youngest is 10 and she loves to pose. Can somone please give me ideas on how to get them to sit and pose, or the name of a book that gives hint tips and ideas.
Hope this makes sense.
Thanks
Aileen
P.S I will be taking them in my living room against a backdrop, lighting not a problem
thanks again

Hi. Get the 6 year old giggling and then right before the picture, use something like "Say mommy is silly" and take the picture on the y in silly for a smile. For the 6 month old, make a nice but strange noise to get their attention. Like rolling your tongue or clicking in your mouth. This will get their attention and they look for the source of the sound. To get them both, start with the saying to the older one followed by the sound for the younger one and you'll have some wonderful images.
