This guy seems smart.
here is his bio:
Brad Templeton founded ClariNet Communications Corp (the world's first "dot-com.") He also created and publishes rec.humor.funny, the most widely read USENET newsgroup and its web site, www.netfunny.com. He is currently chairman of the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), the leading cyberspace civil rights foundation.

Do his findings still hold true in 2005?

Christopher A. Vedros
  Mostly no.

His analysis of the resolution you can achieve by scanning 35mm negatives should still be fairly correct today, though scanners have also gotten better.

His comparisons to digital camera technology are all outdated, though.
