Hardware questions

Maybe this should go in problems? but I haven't HAD problems....just curious if I COULD have problems. My 70-300mm zoom lens took a small tumble (about 2 ft) and slightly grazed the pavement before rolling into the grass. Lens, casing everything is ok....is there any way for me to check to see if I hurt the hardware inside...the microchip stuff that connects to the camera? Or is that something I need to worry about?

Also, I looked in my owners manual (d70) but couldn't find it. Do I need to worry about temperature when I shoot outside? Does the cold affect my camera? I live in MT so the winters can get pretty cold and didn't know if there were any precautions I should take. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

I'm not sure how you would check other that "SHOOT". Wouldn't that give you some indication of any damage? I suppose you could send it to the camera shop but if it was me I'd just attatch it to my camera and shoot away.

as far as cold. I live in toronto canada. I have large freezer bags that I use in winter to transfer my camera and lenses from inside the house to outdoors and vice versa. I put them in the bag and as the air warms up or cools down inside the bag it prevents moisture (fog). On extremely cold days I carry the batteries in my pocket to keep them warm.

Regards
Gary.
