Your Opinion Please... Okay, I am looking for the opinions of people like myself. I am a stay at home mom with a small studio in my backyard. I do about 3-6 shoots a week and range from newborns to family and such. I have recently had a woman request a maternity shoot and she wants to do partial nude shots - which I have never done and am still up in the air on how I feel about this. (I know it can be tastefully and artistically done and have beautiful results, I've just never personally thought I would be the one behind the camera.) So, here's my question...what's your opinion? I guess I just want to think it over and would like your help if you have any thoughts on the subject. Thanks...

Hi Kimberly, I recently photographed my daughter 3 days before she gave birth. These types of photographs can be done with a great deal of discretion and yet not take away from the beauty of an expectant mom. We used a very large piece of ivory coloured chiffon to cover the parts of her body she didn't want photgraphed. I also used a large piece of black cloth for the backdrop. Other things you can use would be oversized white shirts, housecoats, nightgowns, The pictures turned out absolutely beautiful. I used colour and black & white film. So get your creative juices going and go for it. Also Google maternity photography to get more ideas.

Just make the nudity an incidental part of the photograph and you will be fine. If you can place her belly in the light with her brests in the shadows it place the attention where you want it and create a great mood in the process. There is nothing wrong with a nude human body if it is presented in a tasteful manner.

Hi, Kimberly! You do such wonderful portraits! I'm sure that you can find a tasteful way to present it. I personally had some pictures made of me while I was very pregnant with my last child. They were made at my home. I wore black pants, a sports bra and I sheer top with an opening at the belly. While some people find those type shots distasteful (and I admit that I don't like to look at them all the time), I found the shots very tasteful and am very proud of them. Another idea...I saw some beautiful shots of a women using silk-type material draped over the top and bottom and using lighting to highlight the stomach (and darkness to mask the other areas). Yet another idea...To show the beauty of the expectant mom, I like shots that focus on the connection between mom and child. I think that a b&w shot focusing on the stomach with mom's hand on it could be done both tastefully and beautifully. Sorry to ramble on...Good luck if you decide on doing this! I'm sure that you'd do a great job. ~From a fellow stay-at-home mom! =)

I would love to get more details and maybe even some photos. You may be doing exactly what I need. You can E-mail me at VictoriaJG3@yahoo.com

Go for it Kimberly! The human body is beautiful. I would love to see the results if you decide to try. My good friend does mostly nude art photography and has done a few maternity shots. Email me if you would like to see his work.

In your bio you said you want to make art. And here's a chance to do something beautiful! Go for it. There are lots of great and tasteful nude silhouettes you can do. And what is more beautiful than a woman carrying a child?

Hi Kimberly! I just took a look at your work. You definitely have talent and taste. I think you would do a great job. I recently found some fun material at Hobby Lobby..it's kind of sheer, but it comes in several colors and it's kind of like a ....uh well...let's see if you were pulling cotton apart. It has a very unique texture and something like that might be good to drape or hide areas. I think you should go for it. Every shoot is a learning experience...may open up a whole new market for you!!
