Photography Question

Joyce S. Bowley

Advise about a Cypix camera

Hoping someone can help me... I'm a film photographer and my MIL is looking at possibly buying this Cypix 12mp Digital Still/Video/PC Camera. She's asking for my advise, and I have no idea if it's a good deal or a rip off. The link she gave me to look at is:
12.0 MP Digital Camera
Anyone willing to offer some honest advise? Thanks!

  Absolutely a ripoff!

At any price.

The 12MP says that it is "software interpolated". It doesn't tell you what the actual resolution of the camera is. I would bet it is actually about 3MP.

It uses a tiny, fixed-aperture, fixed-focus lens, which is basically what you would find on a disposable point & shoot camera.

It has no optical zoom, only digital zoom. Digital zoom is just cropping the image (and decreasing resolution).

To say that this camera would "create brilliant prints, which look sharper and more vibrant than traditional photographs" is absolutely ridiculous.

I guarantee that if you spent the same amount of money on ANY camera currently made by Canon, Nikon or any other mainstream camera manufacturer, you would be much more satisfied with the outcome.

Chris
