to much light

i just bought a wide angle lens for my cannon g5. when I did some shots in my house to try it out. they were all blown out with light. put my reg lense back on and they are fine. I use a cannon ex420 speedlite also. what setting do I need to change. apature I think. I just did not think just by putting on a wdie lens would change so much.

Daniel, I'm not clear on what you mean by "all blown out" - do you mean that the entire frame is ghostly white? Or is it that certain portions of the image were very overexposed?

If the latter, it might just be a matter of your internal meter "seeing" a bigger chunk of reality, and compensating for it. That is, say that using the normal lens you see 50-50 land and sky in a scenic shot - the meter tries to make the best compromise exposure to capture both the bright sky and dark ground.

Now imagine putting on the w/a lens - and positioning the camera so it sees 25% sky (the upper quarter) and 75% grond. The meter thus "sees" way more dark than light, and opens the aperture or slows the shutter speed to allow for what it thinks is a proper exposure. Little does it know that by doing so the sky gets completely overexposed...

well. I may not explain it well. I will try to upload the shots. first was out side, dark, then moved them inside the house with ok lighting, still using my flash. the third, took off the wide angle, kept my flash. they look ok. a friend of mine said mabey I had a senser covered by my hand. maybe.

last 3 pics in your gallery? Wow. And there were no other changes between "inside reg. lens" and "inside wide angle" than simply adding the wide angle?

What brand/model of wide angle lens are you using? What settings for exposure mode, exposure compensation, flash mode, flash adjust, ISO, etc.?

i am using,Canon WCDC58N Wide Angle lense with the required Canon Conversion Lens Adapter. all from canon and there should be many out there using them. the camera was set for automatic. unless I moved something w/out catching it. I will have to play with it a bit. mabey I changed some setting somewhere on flash options. but from what I have been able to find out so far, should not have had that effect just by putting on the wide angle.
