digital rebel problems!

HELP! Last night I was taking pictures with my digital rebel and suddenly my camera started only taking 1/4 of the picture. I'll post an example. I don't think it's the LCD screen because the numbers are still working on the bottom. Has this ever happened to anyone? If so how hard was it to fix?????? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Oh my!!!! That just happened to me too...last Sunday.
I think it has something to do with the shutter not closing properly....
I did, in the meantime, buy another camera. The broken one will be taken in to be fixed and I'll let you know what they say about it.....I figured if they can fix it, then I'll have a back up camera. How old is your camera? Mine was just a little over a year old.

I bought it in november o4' my warenty should still be good. But I can't aford a new one, that would be awesome. I'm a nut though I don't know what I am going to do without it. It's crazy to spend $1000 on a camera and only have it last 1 year. Do you think it's canon? What camera did you buy???

check with cannon...it's very strange that it happened to both of us. My sister took it back to Rhode Island with her cause she has a guy that won't charge as much as wolff camera or cannon will, as my warranty is over.
I'd love to know what cannon has to say about it. Actually, it happened to my sister's cannon too a while ago.

I just talked to them. They said it sould still be under warrenty. And it should only take 2 weeks(i hope). I hope it's not a problem with cannon. I've loved the camera so far.

who did you contact? I'd like to maybe send mine to them too and also tell my sister to send hers back too.
Must be a cannon problem.

1-800-652-2666 cannon customer support. I hope it's not a canon thing, I don't want to buy new lenses. What camera did you buy? I would love to upgrade to the 20d but now I'm wondering.

I bought the upgrade cannon with 8.0 pixels. Just got it this week. I only got the body cause I already had the lenses.

This happened to mine in July. It wasn't under warranty anymore so I had to pay $180 to get it fixed. But Canon had it back in my hands within 6 days of receiving it at their Irvine factory. They're awesome!!!

professional photgraphers are praising the 20D as a great back-up with a cheap $tag on it

Hi Andrea, just for the heck of it, have you tried shooting at a slower shutter speed? The flash sync for the Rebel is 1/200, which is what you are at in that picture. Try slowing down the shutterspeed a little and see what happens...

Joe

Hey fellow Digital rebel owners....Out of curiousity, how many shots have each of you taken with your rebel? Wondering if there is a correlation?!?

Thanks,
Mel

Joe I tried it on a lower shutter speeed same thing.
I think about 16,000 pictures. I won't give up on canon.

Andrea, Joe is right this DOES look like a shutter speed issue. It states in the discription you used a shutter speed of 200 with the 500 flash. When using an external flash you should not exceed 125 as a shutter speed. The image is not having enough time to record.

OH, and I should say, yes this has happened to me when I had just purchased my new lighting system and I increased the speed to 200. I am almost 98% positive that this is what is happening.

I wish that was the problem but I have tried my camera on all the settings, even auto. Without and without the external flash. I think she's definately sick!
