Iam new to camera work. I have a digital Pentax ,optio 50 camera and am wondering If there is such a thing as colour filters that can be used on this camera.
Some times my pictures have a funny tint to them Orange , bright red's etc . when taken indoors .
James.

Jim, this is because light travels at different wavelenghts and appear differently. Daylight is bluer light that travels at about 600 or so nanometers (600 millionths of a meter) per second. Halogen is more yellow, about 550 nm/second. Indoor light or tungsten, orange or red at about 450 or so nm/sec. Film will naturally pick up this tint to a general scene especially when shot without extra lighting such as a flash. There are films are made to counteract these conditions. Daylight film will resist the blue light and reduce the resultant blue cast on the image. Indoor or tungsten film will work to reduce the redish cast to the film. Things to keep in mind when choosing your film to match your subject. Unless you plan to shoot an entire roll with one type of lighting or you don't mind rewinding a roll after only five exposures, normal film would be the least hassle to choose, bearing in mind that it might not resist the color of the light as well as light specific films.

Now, with digital, the best way to overcome this is in Photoshop or another above-entry-level photo editor. Few inexpensive digitals have on camera controls to correct for the color shift in the ambient light.

I think with a digital like the Optio 50, the best way to deal with this is with the White Balance control. Especially since it outputs files only in .jpg.
