Do professional photographers enter the contest? Does anyone know if professional nature and landscape photographers enter the contest? Such as well known names that grace the pages of magazines and/or who write articles and books, or is BP mostly amateur orientated? I do know many professional portrait photographers enter, but I was wondering about well known names. Just curious because I don't ever recall seeing any names in the contest from magazines such of Outdoor Photographer.

Hey Sharon - looking forward to seeing if anyone answers. But what exactly makes someone a "professional" photographer? How much of their income must be made on photography? 100% 75%? And what if their annual income is only $20,000 - does that make them a professional? Or do they have to make at least $___,000??!? Somehow I don't think the really big names are bothering entering free contests like BP... Either they are instructors here or off making big bucks shooting for National Geographic!

This is one of those questions I figure I already know the answer to but thought I'd ask anyway. I don't imagine there are any National Geographic or Outdoor Photographer photographers entering the contest here. A professional photographer is to me a little more difficult to define than someone in another profession such as an attorney or an engineer. There isn't anything to keep someone from buying a camera, a business license, and starting up a career in photography, but I wouldn't want an attorney representing me in court with those kinds of credentials.
