Feedback:Canon 28-135mm IS USM

I've read reviews about Canon EF 28-135mm IS USM,and I think I'm ready to buy this now. 'Coz I'm new to SLR's,what else do I need? I have Canon Rebel XT with the kit. I think the 28-135mm has a 72mm filter, the XT is 58mm.

  Michael,

My wife uses this lens and is extremely pleased with it. We both have grown fond of image stablization. Great for low light shooting or using the telephoto aspect of the lens.

She has the older Canon Digital Rebel.

As I recall the 58 mm refers to the size of the lens that the camera takes (where the lens fits onto the camera). The 72 mm refers to the "business end" of the lens and tells you what size filter you can put on the end of the lens itself.

The only disadvantage I personally see with this lens is the the EF 28-135 ends up being like a 40 mm when you are using the lens non-extended because of the 1.5x or 1.6x factor of digital cameras. You lose the wide angle advantage. The digital lens such as 18 - whatever mm will compensate for this and you will have basically a 27 mm at the wide angle range on a digital camera - truly wide angle.

Hope this helps.

Michael, where are you ordering from. I checked it out at Norman Camera for $409.95 with a rebate. Norman usually has great prices and usually have it shipped within a couple hours. They are good, I've bought through them before. Have fun, getting a new lens is always fun!

Justin, thanks a lot! I checked it out right away. And it is the same price at B&H. But probably would be cheaper because of the rebate. You know what I'll probably buy at Norman's. Oh, great pictures! Like the band and your model wife, really nice shots!!!
