Cameras

Hi All... Ok, I am looking to upgrade my Nikon D70 to a more powerful SLR... I have been looking at the Nikon 12 megapixel SLR as well as a few others from Fuji and Canon... What I am looking for are suggestions and opinions. Thanks

Joe

  Just to narrow the focus:
More "powerful" in what way(s)? What do you want that the D70 cannot give?

I would just like a camera with a stronger sensor/higher megapixel rating.

That doesn't really narrow things down since there are more than a dozen SLRs from at least 8 manufacturers with 8+ mp sensors.

Right... and I am in the market to buy one lol. I may go with Nikon and then I may not... I am looking for opinions or suggestions on any different cameras with 8+mp sensors.

In my opinion, one of your first considerations should be your lenses. If you have quality lenses for your Nikon D70 now, it would probably be in your best interest to stick with a Nikon camera that can use these lenses.

A $5000 camera body is a big step, though. You should look long & hard at whether you really need more megapixels.

If Your Looking For A New Nikon With More Megapixels That Would Be The D2X At $5000.00 Its Alot Of Camera.I Shoot With Nikon Stuff,If You Dont Have A Bundle Tied Up In Good Nikon Lenses It Might Be Better For You To Go With Canon, The Camera Bodies Are A Bit Cheaper In Price For More Megapixels The Lenses Are About The Same Price For L Lenses And Your IS Lenses Joseph...

$23,000.00... hmmm, might have to crack the piggie bank for that one... haha, jk. My reason for the higher resolutiuon camera is because I am looking to make large posters/pictures and I want them to be crystal clear... no pixelation. Plus, for my wedding business, it would be nice to have the extra power for when the different occasions arise. Right now I have two Nikon D70's each equipped with SB-600 flashes... I have two because I used to double book weddings... however, its hard to find people who want to shoot weddings for me and can do a decent job at it... so I have decided to just make my business a one booking a weekend/one photographer deal... So with that, I would like to sell off the D70's and use the money for a larger SLR and flash.

I have been looking at Canon and Nikon... Fuji is ok too... I will most likely stick with Nikon though the more I think about it.

  Hi Joseph;

In all seriousness, since you want crystal clear, why not go with medium format and a dedicated scanner?
Mamiya RB-67 will outperform any 6 MP as far as sharpness is concerned....AND, the prices are dropping lately.
I too shoot with a Nikon D-70 probably 90% of the time, but when I want something super sharp, I go to my medium format. Still hard to beat, unless I go to 8x10 format, which I do NOT own. LOL

Happy Shooting

Pete

Joseph, I'm new here and please inform if I'm out of place in trying to unload my equipment. But I've switched over to Canon so I have some Nikon stuff to sell

Thank you for your kind comments.
I own D100's. I am very eager to see what Nikon DSLR will arrive soon anyday now to compete with Canon. And compete with Canon they have and always will. Its their timing that always seems to be off. A hybrid between the 6.1MPixels and the D2x is what would sell me. Yet though it would increase resolution, File size, more pixels more information more to do with what you have, remember we are 99% responsible for what the camera sees and what is shot. The best all time photos IMHO were done on cameras you wouldnt even think of owning today.
