Photography Question

Tripod suggestions

So, here I am in the wilds of far northern Minnesota (and, yes, it is wild and oh my, is it amazingly beautiful!!) and I working on capturing an eagle image. Everything is going great, even the light was cooperating and BANG my tripod leg started collapsing and the moment was destroyed. My Bogan tripod (the tracker) was a great tripod – but, the operative word is WAS. I really need to replace it and I need to replace it quickly. I am working on a job (writing, not photography) and have many miles to go still. I am looking at the Bogan 055MF3 Magfibor with a pan-tilt head, probably the same head I use now. Does anyone have experience with this tripod? Are there other suggestions? I don’t want to go nuts here with price, but I do know that you have to pay for something decent. Second question: does anyone know of a good camera shop in North Dakota? I am rarely anyplace more than a couple of nights so getting a shipment from B&H is probably not practical. HELP PLEASE!

The SLIK Sprint PRO GM, SPRINT PRO SL-A are quite great tripods. Though I saw a GIOTTO which looks FANTASTIC! Check www.hpmarketingcorp.com or info@hpmarketingcorp.com

The Bogen Tripods Are Fairly Inexpensive And Sturdy Irene Im Not Sure What Kinda Images You Shoot But For My Own Stuff I Use A Ballhead It Will Save You Some Weight Just Pick A Tripod That Will Hold The Weight Of Your Heaviest Camera Lens Combo Make Sure Your Head Will Hold About The Same Weight As The Tripod Will Support;-)

I have a Manfrotto tripod but any tripod made up of CARBON FIBER will be right up your alley. Remember how the metal tripods get real cold to the touch outside in the fall and winter months, carbon fiber doesn't do that. It's also lighter material like aluminum.

Buddy, Terry and Christopher - thank you so much for all your helpful advice. I am pretty sure I am going with the carbon fibor tripod - I did not know that it did not conduct cold (although had I thought about it this would have made sense) but I am sold on the fact that it is light, but still sturdy. I get so tired of lugging my heavy tracker tripod around. Now all I have to do is to find a photo supply place somewhere in North Dakota! Thanks again!

Irene
