How to get started in the photography business I am 13 years old, a beginning photographer, but think I have potential in making some money off my shots. I have no idea how to start this however. Hi there, I am 17 and just starting to make money from photography. One of the things that has really helped was to join my school's yearbook staff as a photographer last year. This year I am the photo editor, I have control of every picture anyone takes in my class. This has also givin me opportunities to talk to the professional who does our school pictures and sports photography. Your family is also a great place to start. I recently did my cousin's wedding pictures, besides being my first paid job it was an excellent learning experience. Keep practicing, and good luck!

Thanks for the advice, one small problem, I'm Homeschooled. Our homeschool group does do a yearbook though, possibly I could see about that. My family definitaly supports me, so will try there too. What do you think about selling prints on a website, is it better to wait 'till your known better, or just start?

I admire you for taking the initiative to start so soon. Photography is a very scary business, and you definitely can't be shy if you want to make some money. Do you or friends play on any sports teams? Maybe ask them if you can do some shots, and then offer them at cheap prices to get your confidence up. Or maybe see if you can apprentice with a local photographer. You won't make any money to start, but the information you learn will be priceless! Good luck!
