Discontinued lens

I just got a notification from B&HPhoto about a lens I had been interested in. It's the Canon 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 EF IS USM Autofocus Lens - apparently B&H have discontinued selling this lens. I wondered if anyone had it, and what the problem might be.

Canon recently announced an update/replacement for that lens. The new EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM has much improved optics and the latest version of image stabilization. The older EF 75-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM is being (or already has been) discontinued. I suspect that B&H has sold their stock of the old lens and cannot get any more.

I had that lens after owning a Tamron 70-300mm lens or 75-300 lens which I loved. I had a hard time liking the Canon lens you are referring to and the quality wasn't as good as I had expected. I think this new replacement lens that Canon is coming out with would be a better decision of getting. GOod luck.

I had read the spec of the new EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens that is going to replace the EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. It has quite a few improvement over the older one but it is also $250 more (B&H price). I suggest you also look into the EF 70-200mm f/4 L USM, which is also a superb lens with constant max. aperture throughout all zoom range but without the IS and less costly.

Remember that the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM was Canons' first IS lens. So, there has been some major improvement with quality with IS lens over the period of time.

I agree with Andy at looking at the Canon 70-200 f/4 lens as I hear that is a superb lens as well. Isn't there an IS lens option for that lens?

The IS version is for the f/2.8 and the price is more than doulbe the f/4.

Haven't looked at the price for the f4 and whether or not it comes as IS.

Thanks Andy
