Tattoo shots

Okay, I'm going to be taking pictures of tribal tattoos for a freind's book he's putting together. I'll be takin some 1000 shots before its all over, phew! Well, what would work well and look professional as a backdrop? They are on multiple colors of skin, mostly darker, and the tattoos are black pitch. They're gonna be printed, so I wont be using much zoom so I can keep em crisp and best for printing, but I'll be using macro. Oh, I'll be shooting with my Fiji S3000 model.
Any input would be GREATLY appreciated, and no rush, but as soon as possible please. Mahalo Nui Loa and Aloha!

Whatever color background you decide to use, I would try to keep it consistant throughout the book. It won't be distracting then as someone's eye goes from one photo to the next. It will keep their eye on the tattoo artwork. Gosh, my first thought was black as it usually lets the work stand out. I think I would still say black and just use good lighting so that the skin will show up nicely. My next thought when thinking of Hawaiian skin tones seems to be something in the blue family. Maybe an aquamarine or royal blue. White just seems too generic to me. People with tattoos just seem too outgoing to me to go with plain old white.

Let me know what you end up using.

Consistency is definitely in mind. They use black in all the other books we've seen, so we want it ot stand out, the blue is a good idea, I will surely try that. As for them being outgoing, I don't really think it's that their outgoing, it's more like a mark of maturity here on the islands. Alot of people do it "to look cool and fit in" etc everywhere else.(and the tourists of course) But out here, people have different reasons, oh well! Much mahalo for your help!

Wow, good point about tattoos having different meaning there, you are right. Good luck, I'd like to see some your photos after you've taken of few of them.

I will pst a couple as soon as I have them up. My dad used to do tattoo work about 20 years ago and has just recently gone bacl to it out here on Oahu. they definitely have different views about them(most of them anyway, some are just tourists wanting somethin to take back, :P) But thanks for the help!
