Photography Question

Canon Rebel XT VS. 20D??

I am going to be purchasing a digital SLR very soon, and I wanted some advice on if I should get the Canon Rebel XT or the Canon 20D?? I am not sure which one I should get. If the cameras are not much different I was thinking about getting the Rebel XT since it is about $500.00 less. I just don't want to wish I had paid more and bought the 20D. Any advice or help would be so appreciated!
Thank you!:)

The cameras are not the same, but whether or not you'd miss the differences depend on your shooting style. The 20D is one of most superior cameras on the market in terms of ISO performance. I can take shots at 1600 ISO and have negligable noise. This means superior performance in low light. The camera is also a bit heftier and more solid than the XT. That was important to me because I'm tough on my equipment, often propping my camera on dirt mounds to take that certain macro shot, or strapping it to my neck and heading out on the four wheeler. The 20D also has a better sensor so enlargements will probably be nicer.

However, the XT is a great little camera. It has a lot of features packed in for the price. Go to a store and hold both of them, then decide. The 20D is so intuitive for me to use, feels so solid and performs so well at higher ISO that I've never regretted spending more on it.

If you do flash photography you might consider the Nikon D70. It's got a superior flash capability than the canons.

Thank you, Karma, for your helpful advice. I do like to shoot in low light, so that will help me make my decision. (I am also a little rough on my cameras, so that was another helpful point). I will take your advice and go look at both cameras.
Thanks,
Jess

  Jessica,
I completely agree with Karma. I was looking at both cameras as well. I settled on the 20D and am in love with my camera. Her reasons are exactly why I chose the 20D. I am rough on equipment and I do a lot of low light photography as well.

Good luck. Can't wait to see your images with you new camera!!

I was considering both of these cameras as well and went for the 20D.....so happy that I did. It is just an amazing camera. I held both and didn't like the feel of the XT in my hand, but the 20D was perfect. Holding them is great advice.....good luck to you.

Yep, if you can afford it go the 20D, that is if you are going to use the features! I have the XT and love it, it does everything I want it to do, and I have to say, I have dropped it one too many times and it has bounced back fine.
