Traveling light in eastern Europe I am traveling to Warsaw, Krakow, Budapest, Prague and Vienna in late October to early November. I have a Canon Digital Rebel xt with an 18-55mm. lens and a 70-300mm.IS lens. I am planning to take a lot of photos; most will probably be landscapes, cities and people..I will be taking some luggage and wish to travel light. Another of my concerns is security and theft which I read about in one of the guide books. Does anyone have any suggestions on which lens or lenses to take?

If you have the room, take both. If not, I would take the 18-55. As far as security, keep your equipment on you at all times and it should be safe.

Consider leaving the 70-300 at home. Your zoom has an excellent range for travel shots. Avoid the garish, luminescent camera strap with the brand name out there for all to see. Use an inconspicuous black strap, keeping it around your neck. The camera can go in your bag, or inside a jacket. Keep the bag in front of you on public transportation. Actually, you will be there a bit after the main tourist season.
