Hi Sherry and everyone, Yes, with all of the pre summit, summit and post summit preparations, we have had a fun, but hectic month. Also, I believe, there was a record number of entries for the month of August. We are working so hard on getting the finalists announced asap with the winners soon to follow. I know how you feel Sylvia. First thing I do when I get home is check my email. Then check the website in case the finalists were announced and none of mine were among them. Either way I love looking at every single finalist, it takes me days but I love it! My husband was even asking if it's that time of the month again? LOL

Well. I am patient (just barely). But it would be nice if they could post on the main page that it will be delayed by a couple of dayse due to blah blah blah. Hundreds of us log in repeatedly expecting the finalists to be announced only to have disapointment... I know they have a HUGE job dont get me wrong... I just wish that they could give a realistic date.

lol... anne, that is how I feel too! Only, I wish I could get out more and shoot.. I took up hiking just on the chance that Id get some shooting time in, and were also looking into buying a canoe, although im not to keen on bringing a camera... I guess if I keep it in a waterproof bag when im not shooting it will be safe... no rapids or ruff waters, there is a nice wide lazy river that runs through town and id love to know where it goes! craig-

Sylvia, I'm in Europe too! The time difference makes it so hard. I'll check the sight to see if it's changed in the middle of my work day and I'm like, "oh wait, it's 2 a.m. in California." I think my husband is jealous that I'm spending more time with my computer (I hope I'm not.) I'm trying to cut back.

It's a Catch 22 really. He fully supports me and my endeavor for photography, but he's feeling a little neglected sometimes. He doesn't say that, but I sense it in him. I wonder if they have the sendouts on automatic delivery or if someone really is up that late to send stuff. What a neat job though, working for this web site.

Hey Becky, My wife is the same way.. I get home and want to jump on and either edit pics or check out the forums and she wants me to sit and watch TV with her... the thing she cant/wont/dont wanto, understand is, I work 10 hr days, im up at 6 am, leave by 6:35 am and work till 5:00 pm and home and 5:45 pm so that leaves very little time for my Photography... But her move is, if she's watching something on TV that I positivly hate (any of those "so you waan be a ..." reality shows) I will go in the back room and get on the PC, so she'll start yelling across the house, telling me how funny it is, laughing really obnoxiously loud and telling me whats going on and saying things like "Oh hony your missing the funniest thig" It drives me up the wall to be quite honest.. she doesnt do that if im sitting there.. Hmmm oh well, I guess it's a nice feeling to be missed! Craig-

I too wait with bated breath...or is that Reece's Cups breath. I hurt my back Monday but managed to shrug it off..then yesterday "WHAM" and I ended up at the hospital threating RN's if someone couldn't at least give me a shot to shut me up!! 4-1/2 hours just to have them tell me, I have to see my own doctor so he can order an MRI..oh and three shots in the derrierre and much sickness...don't do painkillers very well...anyhow, I have the computer on my chest just sitting waiting to find out who is a finalist!!! Good luck guys!! Oh, and I like to think of my favorite "drug of choice" as my Nikon and 3 hours of nobody getting between me and my lens. ;-0

You know I solved the problem of choosing to work on pictures or watch TV with my hubby. I moved the computer to the TV room. It's cramped and awkward, but at least we get to watch movies together again. Granted, I don't get to see every minute, but I've been a mom for 3 and 1/2 years now, so I'm used to that.

Hello All !! I'm relieved to see there are so many other addicts!!!! This thread is proof to my wife that I'm not the only one who is willing to stand outside in the middle of the night, for long periods of time, just to get a decent photo of lightning from a storm rolling through! Craig, my husband is a TV addict too - isn't it funny how they can't see that they too have an addiction, admit it, and LEAVE US ALONE!! LOL In my husband's case he is addicted to the news - MSNBC is his current favourite channel! And he loves to watch Hannity & Colmes on Fox so he can scream at Hannity for being rude to his guests! LOL I'm telling you, he's got it bad! He's more into American news and politics than that of his own country! (We are in the Bahamas for those of you who don't know me well!) And having said that, of course, the first thing I did when I turned on my computer after lunch, with shaking hands, was to check my email in-box! SIGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My husband is a golf addict, watches the golf channel constantly, so he really doesn't say too much about my addiction to this wonderful art! He does get a little irritated, when I'm up until 2a.m. working on an image, or checking out everyone else's work! Jeff - take comfort in knowing that you are not alone! Just the other day, my husband came home, & couldn't find me anywhere in the house. It's because I was outside, on my knees, attempting to get a good capture of a spider web!!! When he found me like that - he just shook his head & walked back in the house!! LOL!!!!

But what really kills me is when something is on that my wife knowes I wont watch or she has something to do in the gardens (many gardens...her addiction) she says "Why dont you go PLAY on your computer?) play? PLAY?? i've told her time and again, Im not "Playing" im actually trying to learn something fun and usefull that makes ME feel good about MYSELF.. (this is where I go in for the kill...) ..like your GARDENING!!! it usually gets an apology from her for using the word..playing. Ok- I described it to my husband like this. It's like waking up on Christmas morning, and there is no Santa Claus! Three days in a row. All I want is to see that little logo next to one of my pictures! I'm fiending (sp?)for it. I talk to my friends, play with my son, try to spend some time with my husband- and the whole time, all I'm thinking is betterphoto...betterphoto....betterphoto..The other night I actually dreamt that I woke up and there were 150 e-mails in my box of all the pictures I had commented on that were finalists. I'm glad this is like a 'community' thing, it's keeping my mind off my dad who, last I checked was stuck in the Baton Rouge airport. He's been in New Orleans as a disaster assessment worker, and he had an airline ticket to get home today, but I don't know if he made it or is still stuck there and will have to ride it out. I can't call my mom b/c she doesn't want the line busy in case he tries to call her. I live in Europe and there's nothing I can do but worry. Please pray for him and the others.

Goodness, I see so many of you hear talking about dial-up! I thought that went out with the ark! Lucky for me I have cable modem broadband, or it would take forever to read this thread!! LOL But to come back down to earth, Becky, I am adding your dad to my prayers too. I've been in a few hurricanes, I'm still here, and I am sure he'll make it too - the airport is most likely a very sturdy building. I don't know the geography of Baton Rouge, but have faith Becky, if he's in a big structure like that he's going to be OK.

I also have dial up, but thanks to Bill Raco, I now have FAST dial up. He's the VP of an ISP and I switched to that and am much happier than I was with my old one. I'm betting on Sunday for finals. They like Sundays.

okay guys....here's one more.......I am an addict as well....I've said it.....couldn't hardly get my work done today at my job for "checking"... now I'm home....it's late and I'm still checking.......I've caught myself sleeping (dozing off) in my chair at the computer two times tonight.....I've got it bad, but I love it........(the rest of my family are in the bed)......

I've been sitting here so long, my rear hurts!! LOL! My husband went to bed a few hours ago. I can hardly keep my eyes open any longer - I should just go to sleep. Sitting here staring at the screen, & willing the finalists list to appear somehow doesn't seem to be working. LOL!!!!

You all are a RIOT!!!!:):) I am definitely addicted...LUCKILY I work from home SOOO I switch back & forth between the work screen & BP & keep checking to see if they have announced the finalist yet. THOUGH today I have been gone ALL DAY long photography a wedding & on my drive home HOPING that the finalist were announced & to my disappointment...THEY WEREN'T!!!! UGH!!!!:):) Well I know one night couple months ago I was up till 2 am my time(mountain) & they finally posted the finalists..& it was on the 23rd....I have some wedding pics to download & look at soooo I'll stay up for awhile & see what happens!!! I never knew I could be soooo addicted to something:):)!!!!

I just wanted to say that this is really crazy how in about 3 or 4 days there have been so many responses haha. But it's really cool :) I got a finalist! This is weird because I became a member last August and my first entry was also a finalist and now this is my second in a year. Not the one that the judges commented on but a similar. Anyways, congrats to everybody else too!

Elisabeth- I feel exactly the same. It's like I got a bike for Christmas like I wanted. But it's not the shiny pink one with the fuzzy tassles- it's my brother's hand me down. I feel like a spoiled kid. They picked a photo that I didn't really like and didn't pick a couple that I thought were my best work. What a predicament! But I am excited- I finally have one of those tags next to my pic!!!

Well......... This has been an - interesting - thread to read. Sounds like you are all having fun, eventhough the fun is over now until next month... (forshadowing) I got a finalist, and I don't really like it either. It is my father's favorite of my picture, but I still didn't like it that much. Oh well. Well, in the grand scheme of things, I am really quite chuffed that I got one, and I think this thread has been a lot of fun, a much needed place to blow off a little of the stress of what is going on in the world around us - through all this good natured banter I have not forgotten my prayers for everyone in Rita's path. Looks like it hasn't been as bad as was expected, although it's bad enough. Now I pray that we don't hear of any more deaths. Well done everyone!! Ann
