Selling my Camera on Ebay vs. local ads

I'm considering upgrading to a more advanced camera and selling my digital rebel on Ebay. The problem is that I have no prior experience selling stuff on ebay, and so I don't have a rating. My guess is that this is going to turn off buyers and perhaps I won't get as good of a price as I might if I had more of a sales history. For those of you who are experienced, do you think this is true? Should I perhaps consider some other way to sell because of this (e.g., local classifieds)?

  Give it a try!
Post a minimum acceptable sales price and start the bidding.
If it doesn't sell,...all you're out is the posting fee (which is minimal) and you still have your camera to try to sell in another venue.

(...Do people still read local classifieds??)

Haha, good point, Bob...I certainly don't read the local classifieds. I'm just assuming they still exist. :)

I'm an experienced ebay seller with over 1000 positive feedbacks. I would say that you could sell your eqipment on ebay, but you won't get top dollar due to the fact that you are new. There's nothing to say that you'll get top dollar through another channel either. Have you ever looked at Craig's List in your area? Seems to be a popular way to sell just about anything.

Since you don't have any feedback, I would suggest listing more than a couple of pictures of the items you wish to sell. This helps people trust you. Also, be sure you use a shipping method you trust that requires a signature. I like using Fed Ex ground, but that's me. I have had problems with UPS shipments I have received.
