Photography Question

Photo imaging software

I've been using Picasa, the free imaging software for my digital photos. I was wondering what most of you use and what software you'd advise me to get? How about Photoshop Elements? The Photoshop CS2 is really expensive and I've heard that many people find it confusing to use.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Much of your question depends on what you are seeking to accomplish via post processing.
PSCS isn't really confusing; more accurately,it has a rather steep learning curve and can be overwhelming to a beginner.
PS Elements will handle nearly everything you need to do. There are many excellent books on CS & Elements, so I highly recommend getting one or two.
Take your time with each area of PS. Try not to jump into advanced techniques too early..crawl-walk-jump-run. :)
If I may suggest an opinion when learning PS. Start with "Levels" adjustments...Master RGB first for overall exposure corrections..Move to individual color channels next for color corrections, tint etc...
Basic Tips:
1) Never..Never work on the original...Make a duplicate copy and work on it.
2)Use adjustment layers when possible as these are easily undone.
3)Save files in the TIFF format.
4)Practice-Practice-Practice

"Adobe PS can do a million things with many steps..It can also ruin a photo in one" ;)

Happy shooting...

Pete
