Which wide angle lens? I am wanting to purchase a wide angle lens but it is like everything else. There is so much to choose from, I don't know which way to turn. Not only am I want to take landscape, I want something that I can use at family reunions where you can get a picture of a large family all together. I have looked into 28mm with a field of view of 84. I have looked at a 28mm with a field of view 75. I have seen 95.4 - 54.8 field of view. Those figures mean very little to me. At what distance do you judge what you can see? I don't want to be so far away that you can't make out what the picture is of. I know it depends on how big of an area I want to take a picture of, but can someone at lest give me a starting point?

It would help to know what camera the lens is for. For a 35mm film camera, a 28mm lens will take in an angle of view of 65.5° across the film frame (horizontal) and 75.4° across the diagonal (corner to corner). This is a moderate wide angle and would be sufficient for most groups. Not sure where you got your numbers. Maybe confusing other focal lengths: for 35mm film cameras an 84° field of view in the diagonal is given by 24mm lens.

Thank you Jon, it was my mistake. I am using 35mm. And as far as where I got the numbers, it was listed under the items description. On was listed as a 28mm lens with a field of view of 84. The other was a 28mm lens with a field of view of 75, etc.

You may want to consider a 35 mm medium wide-angle. -Better group lens than the 28mm...(less leaning-type distortion on the outside of the frame. -Great landscape lens. More coverage than a standard 50mm but a more accurate "naked eye" look to the landscape than a wider angle lens would yield.
