Proofs for a wedding

Hi again,

Here's another question. I'm starting to prepare everything to start doing weddings. Family members are starting to get married so we'll see how that goes. Anyways I was wondering how you display wedding proofs. Also if any of you do wedding photography If you would mind giving me an idea of the steps you do from the day you take pictures, to the day you show them, to printing and then reordering. I'm clueless. I had a friend take pictures at my wedding so I don't know what would be standard. I would truly appreciate all of your help!!

  Wow!
Not sure how many responses you've had, but I think you might want to re-think this.
To answer all your questions would require a book.

Proofs are generally shown to the parties via 4x5 or 4x6..and also arranged. (i.e) Pre wedding shots..bridal portrait...reception..etc...

So I would use basically a photo album to show them?

Also how does everyone store their negatives from the weddings?

Thank you!

Deborah, I just try to "keep it simple." I have certain packages that the couple pay for ahead of time. Then after I develop all the photos, I put them into an album, give it to them, along with all of the negatives. This way if they want copies or enlargements they can do it themselves. This just keeps it simple for me (and I do not have the room to store all of those negatives anyway). A great site that you may want to check out is: http://johnlind.tripod.com/wedding I read this before I did my first wedding, and it helped tremendously. I think it's great that you will be able to start off with family's weddings. This is a very stressful job, fun, but stressful and I think it helps when you start with people that you know. Good luck. HAVE FUN WITH THIS! Keep me posted on how this goes.

Deborah,

You are taking on a big responsibility by photographing someone's wedding.

I'm not at all saying not to do it, just saying that it's hard work. Obviously everyone has to start at some point.

I would read as much as you can and PRACTICE as much as you can.

My typical wedding goes....

meetings with couple
photograph the event
edit photos (don't underestimate this step)
present couple with proofs
take order
process order
deliver order

I present my proofs in leather proof albums as I think that presentation has a lot to do with how you are perceived.

I would suggest to you that if it is your first wedding you make it very clear to the couple that it such and be clear about what quality photos they are expecting.

I am posting a few sample wedding shots as I did on another thread showing you the quality differences in my "first" wedding and then subsequent weddings.

I'm not saying you'll do a bad job as I did on my first. I thought that I knew EVERYTHING and that the portraits were going to be outstanding. I didn't and they weren't.

I stopped doing weddings until I learned how to use my equipment properly. All of the weddings were shot with the same equipment.

I think that as long as you study, know your equipment, and are aware of what the couple expects, then go for it.

Good Luck! :)

Amber
