Photography Question

Oliver Anderson

which filters to buy

I have a 10D and use a Canon 17-40L or 70-200 2.8IS lense often, just wondering which brand of lense filters I should buy. I shoot car shows, Nascar and drag races outdoors and have no idea on which filter or brand I should buy.

B+W and Tiffen are good from what I hear. Pricey but if you're going to put money into the lenses, I personally wouldn't put an $8 filter on it. My opinion. Anyways I'm currently goign for a grant and the two lenses I put on the thing was the 17-40L and the 70-200L. How do you like them?

my father is an amazing photographer with film and these two lenses are so amazing they make me look like I know what I'm doing. I'm fortunate in that I've got 7 lenses but if I had to start over I'd buy only those 2. make sure you buy the 70-200 2.8IS the IS is well worth the extra $$.

Well i'm going for a grant and the top prize is only 2500 so the IS is out of my league with getting other stuff too so I figured the non-IS is good enough for now. if I get these i'll really start tying to make money with photography then after all that happens there'll be some other new lens I want so i'll just save up for the new one. I really want the new what is it 24-105L or something like that. looks nice. right now I have the 28-90 that came witht he kit and the 75-300 crappy one from best buy, both optics aren't that great. I really need better glass.

I went to go buy the two brands that you mentioned but I ended up buying Heliopan filters, the guy said they were the best. I really am learning that lenses are key when it comes to quality photos.

That's very true. With film at least, the camera itself doesn't do anythign to the picture, it just hold the film in place for the lens to do the work. But yes good quality glass is paramount to good pictures. They say you won't notice too much of a difference in lenses unless your printing like 11x14 or bigger but with digital every littel detail is noticeable, so these L lenses really come alive!. Man I wish I had your lenses! lol
