Photography Question

photoshop for windows 98

I wanted to purchase one of the photoshop softwares but upon reviewing the requirements, I noticed most of them require either win 2000 or XP. I have win 98... the dealer told me xp wasn't any good, so I stayed with what I had. now I'm finding a lot of new software won't work on 98. Is there a photoshop that I can use with 98? I hate to have to upgrade ALL my software. Thanks

Photoshop Elements Versions 1 or 2; Photoshop 5.0. I'm not sure whether PS Verssion 6.0 will work.

Thanks. Is one of these better than the other? Which one of these options would be the most current? I eventually want to get the CS, but I'll have to wait until I can upgrade my computer.

Photoshop 7.0 and, of course, 6.0 work on Windows 98. Seven is where I am right now. I like 7, but I liked 6. If you can get a better deal on PS 6, go for it, but be sure its the full version you're buying and not an upgrade. When, not if, your computer crashes, just get XP. Upgrade your PS, if there's something in the CS razzle-dazzle versions you need, like raw processing from a digital camera.

  Kathy -

I'm using and love Version 1.0. It does what I need. Version 2.0 is a small upgrade; it's still available for about $35-40.

Photoshop 5.0 is available at a few places. You can buy the non-serviceable [by Adobe] for a steal. I thought Version 6.0 was the "little" upgrade, like PE-2. Version 7.0 would be a better choice if you're going all the way to the full blown program, which I'm not convinced most of us need.

Surf on Adobe Photoshop Elements and you'l come up with a lot of places that offer the software at great prices. They're legal and eligible for version upgrades, but you can't get Adobe support.
