Photography Question

Hurricane Katrina

I just would like to say I hope that all our members who have been and may still be in the path of Katrina will be safe - my prayers are with you. I've been asked many times how we cope with the stress of hurricane season year after year here in the Bahamas, and although I have been through 5 major storms and several tropical storms I can honestly say that we have NEVER suffered the devastation that has occurred during any of the storms that have hit the US in the past 12 months. We have lost trees, walls, bits of roofs, power, phone lines, cell phone service, internet service, but rarely life or limb, and our lives are usually back to normal within a week or so. Certainly some of our outer islands get hit harder, but recovery is still quick. I cannot begin to imagine what people are going through in Louisiana, Missisippi and Alabama today. Maybe the big one will hit us one day too, I surely hope not. My heart goes out to everyone whose lives have been turned upside down by Katrina, and I pray that the human suffering that is inevitable will not last too long.

My thoughts and prayers are with them. Truly horrible storm. Chris and Kathleenkp are the ones I know of from the direct hit area. Chris posted a note that he left for north. ...Ann, any word from Kathleen? ...I have to believe that she's left for a safe place, too.
Ann, I truly share your sentiments.

I have been watching the coverage on the news today. I had no idea just how devastating this storm was! My heart goes out to everyone effected! I have noticed that things have quieted down around here as of late. I hope it has nothing to with Katrina.

I hope all is well!

it's not going to end any time soon for those effected by Katrina - keep them all in prayer (victims as well as volunteers)

Nicole, I think perhaps most of us are shell shocked by what has happened, and somehow it just doesn't seem right to be doing things we normally do, when so many people are suffering in such horrible conditions. I have found it difficult to tear myself away from the continuous breaking news. I am so relieved that KK is alright. I do hope all our BP members in that area are safe and accounted for.

...having been through 5 hurricanes here in florida within the last year, I know how it is to be without power, water, ice and basic things we take for granted in life...but have never seen such devastation as this one...wish all of you well, perhaps it will be a rallying point...my thoughts are with you...

Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. I live in the D'iberville/Biloxi area of Mississippi. It is horrible down here. Everything along hwy 90 on the beach is gone. I'm okay and all of my family and friends have been accounted for. I still haven't heard back from some of my classmates tho. Quite a few people I know lost everything. I want to thank everyone for everything they've done to help us. It is greatly appreciated!!! I've taken a ton of pictures, give me a few days and I will try and get some up!

  Hi Sandra,
I'm not quite sure how bad Saucier got hit. I'm not all that familiar with that area. I do have an uncle who lives off of CeCe RD (not sure if you know where that is)which is suppose to be in Saucier and he lives in a trailer and it did fine. I aslo have a friend who lives in Latimer which is somewhere near Saucier and her house was fine. I hope you hear from your friends soon!!! It's terrible not knowing!

For anyone interested I have removed all of my 'normal' pictures and put up some from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. I will be downloading about 250 more from my camera tonight. I will try my best to get some more up tomorrow. I have titled them with the city they were taken in, if you click on them there will be a description of what the picture was suppose to be of.
