File size

I have a new digital camera and am confused about the file size of my pictures. I took pictures at a birthday party last night--all on the same settings of 5M and Fine. The pictures of the birthday girl and her cake all have file sizes of less than 1M. The close-up of the cake is over 2M. Can someone explain this to me??? Thanks!

What kind of camera is it? I don't assume you were using digital zoom, though I think that adds the pixels to make it the same size, plus the size would probably be flipped. Also, I think that depending on what's in the image like light or dark or what ISO you use, the size may change. When you use a higher ISO, the file size is usually larger. If you are in an auto mode, it might have selected ISO 400 especially if you've zoomed in and taken any overhead lights out of the shot. HOpe this helps you out!
