Catching Gymnasts in Leaps

Howdy folks.

As usual, the reward for a job well done is a harder job. Now I have to shoot gymnasts in the middle of a leap. I have the luxury of doing this in front of a backdrop, indoors, under meager flourescent lighting, not at a gym meet, fortunately, so I can have folks jump as many times as needed (at least 'til they start keeling over). They need to do a running start and need someplace to land so the camera will have to be "beside the runway" if you will, catching them as they run/leap by. The trouble is that I can't be real sure exactly where in space the subject is going to be when it's time to push the magic button, so a fixed lighting arrangement is going to be tough. Any good ideas on how to light this? I have an SB28 which I can mount on my N80, or I can put it on a separate stand with or without a 45" umbrella, and use my flashmeter to set exposure. I also have a couple of additional smaller optical slaves (GN about70) with or without umbrellas. Any thought would be appreciated...
