1st Paid Wedding

I had my first paid wedding this past weekend.

I think it went okay. Thought I'd post a couple of the shots to see if anybody had any advice for me. I'm shooting another this weekend and another 2 weekends after that.

These aren't neccesarily the best ones, just one of the only ones, I have processed.

I think they'll end up with about 300 proofs.

They were alot of fun.

whadda ya think?

ps
I tried to apply a soft focus to the close up of their faces, but I think I'll take it back off, to me it just looks like I did a bad job focusing.

HI Amber! I really like the lighting in these pictures. . . what kind of light did you have/use when you took them. I agree with the soft focus. . . I think I would take it off and just use it on ones they are gazing at each other for a dreamy appeal!

  hey Amber ,
these look great!!! for your first wedding you should be very proud of your self!!!
and they should be happy also!
color and lighting seem to be on target
on pose 4 - next time try your shot and then try it with them looking at each other in stead of you- and see witch one you like best.
you may notice that it will look more natural, comfortable and less forced.(like you caught a moment)
but of the ones you posted -they are cute and on target.
CONGRADULATIONS!!!!
people ask about this all the time, soooo: how do you feel???
for some of us it's been a long time since the first one-
you now hold a LOT of valuable info. to share with others in that same boat.
have a great time at the next one-you'll have even more fun!

Thanks for the comments so far.

Michelle,

I took and used my alien bee studio lights.

I had practiced on 1 wedding before this one where I didn't use them, and the difference was HUGE! Now I will always take em with me.

  Debby,

I enjoyed myself, but it was hard! I see little things that I did wrong, but I didn't forget any shots, which is good.

I just can't wait until I get consistent results from my next couple weddings and then my price is going up, up, up!

I did this wedding and the next two for only $350.00

I just couldn't justify charging any more than that when I had no idea what I was doing!

WELL, I HAVE ONLY SEEN THE FEW- WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE CANDIDS WITH FLASH.
BUT IF THEY LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THIS - YOU SHOULD CONSIDER RAISING THAT PRICE NOW.
THAT WAS A VERY FAIR WAY FOR YOU TO CONDUCT YOUR SELF-BUT THESE LOOK GREAT!
PRACTISE POSING SUBJECTS AND EYE DIRECTION AND HEY!
IT'S TIME TO DEVELOP THOSE MORE DETAILED PACKAGES.
BEST OF LUCK IN YOUR CONTINUEING SUCCESS,
DEBBY

Amber, I didn't see this post at all! I am sorry, I don't get to spend a lot of time on here, only Mon, Tues and Wed every now and then during the day (Oz time). But you did a great job. I checked out the Alien Bee website for the lights, but by the time I ship them here, they are more expensive than just buying in Oz. What a shame, that are just so cute!!!

The lighting is perfect for the photos, I agree with Deb on photo number 4. There is something about them, that I love, I think it is the lighting which makes them look so realistic! Although it must of been hard lugging them around! I presume you had a battery back.

My husband is my helper and he set up and broke down for me. Thank goodness! We just brought tons of extension cords because I can't afford a battery pack quite yet.

I was really happy with how they turned out. I will post when I get them all done.

thanks for the comments!

This may have been your first paid wedding, but with the quality of work you put out, it won't be your last! Good job.

I am very new to this forum, but I was wanting to ask Amber how many alien bees and what wattage did she use for her wedding portraits???

Thank you so much!

  Rayna,

I used 4 alien bees

I have 2 B800's and 2 B400's. I used umbrellas for the front (I didn't want to pack my softboxes) and I used background shovels for the back.

I have the entire wedding posted now on my website.

WOW! That's a lot of lighting! I was just curious--you didn't by chance do a test shot without the bees and just with a flash, did you?

I just ordered my first white lightning 1600 w/s....I figured I would need 2 for filling appropriately, but 4 is rather pricey! =)

BTW, I shoot nature photography in Rapid City, SD. My website is: www.rayoflightphoto.com
I'm moving into portraits and weddings, but still rather inexperienced! =) I have used stroboframes in the past, but I just ordered the Lightsphere II and was thinking of trying that for 2 weddings next weekend.

  Rayna,

I have the Lightsphere and have been pretty happy with it.

It was quite a bit of lighting, but I had taken a wedding for free before this one and was just devastated by the results.

They didn't care cause it was me for free or no one, but I will definetly get more bookings with these images than with the ones without my lights and so it was worth the plunge for me.

I am aware that there are people out there that can produce superb images with a speedlite and a reflector, but at this point, I'm not one of them. I take the easy way.

:)

I'll check your website out, thanks.
