Note card rubber banded to your flash does the same thing. All it does is the hole on top lets light bounce off the ceiling, and since it's translucent white, you get some light reflecting off the insides and out. That's your fill. Or buy a small milk carton, or orange juice jug. Something in the grocery store is going to be in a plastic jug.

Yeh, I know most of those things work just as well, but not so pretty when you are photographing a wedding. I don't mind spending the money (I looked on his website, he has reduced the price). I don't want to be laughed at walking around a wedding with a plastic jug on my flash.

Telling her she can save $25 and do the same thing with something else. If there's anything rough about that, how in the world did you make it through life with that level of wimpyness.

Greg, go have a beer or something! LOL

I know the lightsphere is HUGE, but it still is made for the camera there is no way in hell you are going to catch me at a wedding, with a juice bottle on my camera - FULL STOP. Seriously $25, is it really that much these days? And anyway, it is more, cause I live in Oz and plus shipping. But if I am happy to pay it, then why is it your problem.

Anyway, back to the question at hand..has anyone used it?

  Natalie,

Hopefully I can be a little more helpful than what you've received so far.

I have one and I really like it. I haven't used it at a wedding yet. I just haven't had a chance to practice enough with it, that I feel comfortable using it at a wedding.

I really don't think that it's that dumb looking. Honestly, Here I am packing around a 20D with a battery grip, a bag of lenses, stroboframe with a 580 speedlight and a battery pack for my flash. What's one more thing? Even if it is a clear plastic dome?

Personally I think I look silly anyway.

The only thing that I haven't mastered with it yet is the exposure compensation since you lose some in the difusion.

I hope to practice more with it soon.

Amber

  I do think it's worth the $25.

Don't think I mentioned that.

Thanks Amber, do you have any photos you can post to show me how they turned out with it. Can't you set your camera to automatically overexpose by +1 or +2 stops, I know I could with my film camera, I am sure I can with my digital - I better find out. But obviously, you need to be able to turn this off and on quickly depending on the situation etc, and weddings are so fast! Also, in M mode, isn't just a matter of ensuring your built in meter reads +1 instead of in the centre?

  Natalie,

Yes, I can compensate exposure withe my camara and you're right about making sure that it reads +1. At least that's how I understand it.

The only thing that I am confused about is whether or not I am supposed to use exposure compensation through the camara or flash compensation.

I did use it on one shot at the wedding I took this weekend where I was getting a glare. I will hopefully have those pics processed in the next two days or so. I will try to remember to email the before and afters to you.

Thanks Amber, that would be great. Not sure if this is right or not, but I don't think it matters which way you chose your exposure compensation one or the other will work. With my camera and flash, I will have to do it through the camera, as my flash has E TTL and sets its own settings bassed on a pre flash, actually come to think about it, if I tell the camera to overexposue by +1 the flash will realise this and not fire as much. Silly flash, to intelligent for its own good. But I am sure I can trick it, but I think the exposure compensation is so slight that it can be fixed in PS anyway.

Hi Natalie,
I bought the LSII and don't use it that much...not that I don't like it, but really can't tell a huge difference in it and the omni bounce. I honestly haven't had the time to play with it that much. I got it a few months ago and just haven't had the chance. I did try it out a wedding and had only had it a week or so and hadn't figured it out. But if the price has been lowered, I'd say go for it. One thing I didn't like is that it is bulky and heavy on the flash. I will post a few of the shots from the wedding. I only used it for a little bit during the cake photos and that was it. I just wasn't comfortable enough with it at time. And I always use the exposure comp on my flash. I think it easier for me to access it on the flash. I will try and upload a few!
